XMTP · Pricing Plans

Plans

XMTP uses a usage-based, decentralized fee model rather than traditional subscription tiers. Fees are paid in USDC directly to node operators who run the XMTP network infrastructure. There are no centralized subscription plans — developers fund their apps and agents through the XMTP Funding Portal, and the network charges per-message fees distributed to node operators.

Plans is the machine-readable pricing-plan profile for XMTP on the APIs.io network, conforming to the API Commons Plans specification.

It defines 3 plans, with named plans including Open Developer Access, Mainnet Usage (Pay-per-message), Node Operator.

Tagged areas include Web3, Messaging, Encryption, Decentralized, and Ethereum.

Open Developer Access

XMTP SDKs and network access are open source and freely available. Any developer can build applications and agents using XMTP without any upfront subscription fee. Network message fees only apply when messages are sent over the production mainnet.

Mainnet Usage (Pay-per-message)

Production mainnet usage is billed on a per-message basis in USDC. Fees are paid directly to independent node operators and are not collected by XMTP Labs. Developers pre-fund their apps through the XMTP Funding Portal and the network deducts fees per message sent.

Node Operator

Organizations and individuals can apply to run XMTP network nodes and earn fees from message traffic. Initially limited to 7 approved operators selected for geographic, geopolitical, and industry diversity. Node operators receive 100% of collected fees in Phase 1 of the network rollout.
