Openchargemap Plans

Open Charge Map operates as a non-commercial, community-supported open data project. The API is free to use for any developer or organization that registers for an API key through the Open Charge Map website. There are no paid tiers or commercial licensing fees. The project is sustained through community contributions, donations, and partnerships with organizations that support open EV charging data. API keys are required for all regular API usage to allow the project to monitor usage patterns and prevent abuse. Anonymous requests may function in limited capacity but are not recommended for production use. POST operations for contributing data require an authenticated user account.

Openchargemap Plans is the machine-readable pricing-plan profile for Open Charge Map on the APIs.io network, conforming to the API Commons Plans specification.

Plans

Free / Community

The standard access tier for all registered developers. Free to use with an API key obtained by registering a user account at openchargemap.org. Provides full read access to the global EV charging station registry via the POI and Reference Data API endpoints. Supports geographic search, bounding box queries, filtering by connection type, operator, level, and status. The API key is passed as a query parameter (?key=YOUR_API_KEY) or HTTP header (X-API-Key). Results are limited to a maximum of 250 records per request for queries without explicit pagination controls.

Contributor

Extended access for users who actively contribute to the Open Charge Map dataset. Registered user accounts with verified contributor status gain access to the POI submission API (POST /poi/) to add new charging stations and update existing records. Data contributions are reviewed by the community and integrated into the global registry. Contributor accounts are free and obtained through the standard registration process.
